Background:
Having had some experience with the technology, Parramatta City Council turned to Dd3D Works to build a new 3D VR model of the Parramatta CBD that would have the accuracy and presentation quality to enable the system to be cable of withstanding scrutiny in the NSW Land and Environment Court.
Development of the model has been staged with a “fast track” Interim Model option provided to enable Council to be up and running as quickly as possible at minimum cost.

Stage1 - Upgrade of the Church Street Mall - May 2006
The objective of this initial stage was to visualise this urban planning and landscape proposal within the existing city fabric using the real time simulation environment to communicate the changes to Councillors and the community.
Accurate and realistic, existing buildings and terrain structured from new +/- 0.1m spatial data. New lighting, paving, fencing and street furniture were modelled from detailed drawings and placed according to the design plans. Landscaping was also well represented.
Since delivery animations have been made in-house from within the simulation environment. Excerpts of animation from the model have also been shown on the local television news. |

Stage2 – Interim CBD model - March 2007
Dd3D Works has now achieved an accurate block model of the entire CBD derived from +/- 0.1m 3D spatial data. There is an extensive terrain (break-line TIN) draped with ortho photography, photo realistic vegetation and bridges.
The Interim CBD model will be used for both urban structural planning and DA assessment. Building models will be enhanced over time with more detailed modelling and mapped imagery. The model is owned by Council and can be used and enhanced by staff in-house. |
Technology:
Dd3D Works’ technology included CAD – MicroStation (Bentley), and VR simulation software – SIMurban (SIMmersion Holdings Pty Ltd). QASCO (NSW) Pty Ltd collected and digitised spatial data and provided ortho-photography. |
